They warned me about sleepless nights and being exhausted. But no one prepared me quite exactly for how much sleep deprivation I would experience! I used to sleep 12 hours sometimes on the weekends, blissfully waking up around lunchtime. I used to go to bed at 9 or 10pm and get up at 530/6 am to work out. Boy, has things changed! I know it won't last forever, and keep telling myself this won't last forever, but some things people didn't tell me was how to make the most of the sleep you can get.
For starters, I didn't maximize sleeping when baby slept in the beginning as people would be over visiting or I would carry out my day like any other while baby had her naps wherever we were. She can sleep pretty much anywhere, but in the beginning her favourite was the carseat on our road trips to and from the city (an hours drive). She still is a good traveller (unless she is going through development stage) but she is also awake more during the day and i still not the best sleeper at night.
Her schedule right now at 5 months is up at 730am for about 90 mins. I then make sure she has her nap every day at home. I can't stress this enough for baby girl as if she missed this nap my day is off kilter all day. She has tell tale signs she is tired (glossy eyes, starts to slow movements with her hands, yawns, etc.) If she starts rubbing her eyes or gets cranky I have to hurry it up and get her down before she is overtired and gets her second wind.
She usually sleeps for almost 2 hours in the am. She then feeds, has a diaper change and plays until her next nap (usually around lunch). That naps can be
